I do have a supportive and loving family. But I feel most do not truly understand the extent of this disease and how difficult it is to manage. I’m 32 and it’s like my life has been completely flipped upside down. Went from training mma 5-6 days a week to needing to be careful not to bump into a door as it can become dangerous when your count is super low. Traditional first-line treatments like corticosteroids and IVIG have shown good initial response rates, with IVIG helping over 80% of newly diagnosed patients and corticosteroids helping 60-80% of patients increase their platelet levels. Newer treatments like fostamatinib (Tavalisse) work differently by preventing platelet destruction rather than just boosting production. This represents an innovative approach to managing ITP symptoms.

Additionally, new therapies in clinical trials like mezagitamab are being studied as potential treatment options, with results expected by late 2024. While comparing treatment effectiveness, it's important to note that each person may respond differently to various treatments. It's recommended to discuss specific treatment options and their potential benefits with your hematologist to determine the best approach for your situation.
